Guild warships?

#61
Okay, seriously. Stop. Stop thinking too hard on this. It's not even that bloody complicated. You're only making it complicated because you have this mindset that it won't work and you're the only one that's right. Well, okay, in your mind you can be right. And in my mind, you're overthinking something that doesn't need nearly that much thought. Anything can work under the right parameters. That's all that's needed. So would you please quit going on about this needs to be that and that needs to be this and nothing will work because cats and dogs don't get along.

Just trying to be realistic bro... has nothing to do what they are going to offer in the final end, by that I am not saying that I am a complete nay sayer to it, just got a hunch that it never would happen.

20 people per capital ship is fine. You could even have less, and allow the ship to be sub-optimal. Is it a perfect re-creation of Star Wars? No, but the rest of the game isn't going to be either =p

If we're talking about cap ships in TOR, I imagine a lot of the "lower" work can be delegated to NPC's, and it wouldn't be too distracting since they seem to be leaning toward this NPC "pet" system.

"Don't be deceived by appearances, Luke. Wookiees aren't simply big shaggy humanoids. They have an ancient culture with subtleties of its own. They are creatures with close ties to nature, and a great affinity in their own way, for the Force." Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi, on Wookiees. (Star Wars: A New Hope Audio Drama)

QuorTek Wrote:None offense meant or anything bro... but how would you like to have capships to work out in a full control 3D space enviroment other than the way they do it in EvE which is click based?

Star Trek Online has capship battles in a 3D space environment and it's not click based, it's performed using the W,A,S,D keys or holding down both mouse buttons and looking in the direction you want to go in. Please do not start a flame war over this, I'm just saying that capships can be done without clicking.

Also, I agree that capships would be cool, but there would have to be a restriction on just how big the capships we can have are. Imperial-class SD size? No dice. Neb-B frigate size, sure, but not much larger then that..... Maybe Vic Deuce, but that'd be the max.

Did we suddenly forget what timeline we are in? For one thing, there are no Star Destroyers or SSDs, or anything quite that big. You're looking at max size to be about a Victory-class. Dreadnaughts (Star Wars version) are common place size as well. The majoity are going to be no larger than the size of an Interdictor.

And as for the crew.. Why would you need 20 people, other than the size of the group to include starfighters as well? Think about how a POB in Galaxies works.. You've got gunners, a pilot, and a co-pilot that operates the systems of the ship. Well, you don't need a gunner per gun.. You can have a gunner in charge of banks of weaponry. 1 gunner, 3-4 guns to use, and their targeting converges. It would just be a bridge crew required of MAYBE 3 people.

And finally, why does everyone have to be so negative about every push forward? Why can't we just say, "That's a damn good idea, let's see how it works." Instead all I ever hear on this subject is, "That would be cool, BUT.." I'm honestly sick of buts, and howevers, and people bitching about how it's not gonna work.

Good day.

20 people is an arbitrary number just to keep the feel of having a large crew. It has the added benefit of keeping the number of them down. It can certainly be adjusted to taste though.

Good day.

Hey now A starfighter bomber require 1-2 people depending on type, POB 3-4 People, Gunboat 6-8 people now multiply with something that is much more bulk alike and many times bigger, was very large saying just 20 people to make the thing work out and make it feel like you actually was flying a Capital ship in the starwars universe.. claiming it is just a couple of people of needed to me seem like too Godmode alike at least from the starwars perspective, EvE online is different though, you get like a max of 8 guns and just have to steer around with various flight schedules and vectors you don't operate like 100 of guns you got a max for like 10 targets or so and the guns auto aim.

How many people is needed for a Navy Carrier in real life or battleship? many 100s of people, why should it be much different than from operating a ship that maneuvers around in space?

Again I am not opposed to cap ships in SW:TOR, but I would demand that an effort to operate one would require a big crew, even though I scaled it down to somewhat 20 people, except for that you need fighters in the group as well and so on and so forth.

#70
Because TOR, which is a game should copy real life and forsake gameplay.

#71
Watch there not even be much, or any, space.

#72
Well just saying it should not be a little bunch of people being able to operate one to make it somewhat realistic but still way scaled down, why don't you guys head to the sw:tor boards about this stuff and contribute, maybe the devs would see something about something as it is, been there myself doing stuff... there is a starship thread there somewhere... add to it there instead of here if we discuss between each other it would not do anything, other than we can agree adn disagree to how it should be and so on and so forth.

#73
That's the thing though, Q, if I wanted it to be ultra realistic, I'd be on a Naval warship somewhere in the Pacific getting paid to stand my post. What I want is going to look alot more fun than that. What are 20 people on a ship going to do? One to raise shields one to make the swish sound of the doors, another to make sure the toilet works? Seriously, why be so asanine about something so trivial?

#74
shirely , an surely we got better things to rant on about then this dead horse ? .

#75
It'll never be a dead horse around these parts.
