Anishor is jerking your chain ... A game that's been on virtual life support since nge . It's only a matter of time til SoE starts to close servers an consolidate the remaining servers . It's the first step towards pulling out the plug .

Granted EQ still is going but it's also still turning a profit . SWG isn't . It's a loss leader an tax write off borderline corperate finnacial sponge to SoE along with the rest of the deadbeat games it's got in the stables . SOE will ultimatly cut losses to save the bottom line from compltly melting down in disaster .

SWG at best has 2 more years left in it . You can only beat the dead horse only so much before rigor mortis sets in . SWG just has a maintence team not even a full dev team like they used to have ... there all in austin working on the swg card game Tongue. Once tor comes out an the 2011 generation of mmo's soe will have to cut bait or sink .

I could see the game with one to three game servers running for another ten years. Pretty sure the hardware was designed to be scalable so they can keep pulling out hardware servers and what not as they like. If you don't have to pay for a bunch of people playing the cost for running it drops pretty quickly.

He sounded pretty serious, between him and his associate Wyrrlicci I wanted to stick my boot up their asses for being so stubborn.

10 years may be a streach but 5 is doable. Look at how long Matrix stay on. At some point they will stop development though.

And is SWG losing money? Do we know this for sure?

SWG will last for thousands of years. Long after we leave earth, solar powered servers will ensure that all our ships will be preserved through the ages.

SWG was a massive black hole in the bottom line value when nge launched ... if the card game ended up a total failure soe woulda had to pulled the plug right then an there . the card game + few active subs they have = just enough to float on life support with a skeleton staff . which they have operated at for the last 2 years . in 2009 swg's subs were down another 30% overall from what they had in 2008 . with 2010 not done the first quarter , it hard to say .

but when your mmo is operating with a skeleton staff and a dev team of three people . swg dives dangerously close to a being like matrix .. extinct .

there's several mmos' looking at being dropped completly by early 2011 ... Would not be suprised if swg is on that list .

It'll last for a while. I saw quite a few people playing when i hopped on last week, and a lot of player cities still up. Plus, teh game was actually kinda fun. Dunno about 10 years, but it won't leave anytime soon.

SWG is earning money as it is... not as much as other more popular MMOs though but they are having a surplus each month.

Lesser servers.. lesser crew to manege stuff... lesser development...

But as it running for 10 more years.. doubt it, they prolly are going to have a legacy server or something in the end... and even that would die out at some point when SWG 3 has come out as well as EverQuest 4 and WoW3 Tongue

Heh, because of the NGE they will never do a SWG 2. That name just has too much negativity attached to it. A Clone Wars MMO I could see though.
