Love it or Hate it

They cancelled the Narnia movies? That's awesome. Those books sucked anyways.

I'm going to go to Terminator Salvation. But how do you reboot what is the chronological next step in the franchise anyway? That worries me. How anyone could mess up arguably the coolest part of the Terminator universe, (The post apocalyptic war) is beyond me. I guess they found out how...

*smiles deviously at Star*

Its a classic, by definition it can't suck - even if it does contain an analogy to your most hated thing in the word Tongue

How do I put this, millions of kids fall in love with at least one of the Chronicles of Narnia books each year. The metathemes appeal to kids because they are the themes of epics, of amazing stories found in Homer and other Greek stories.

What kid doesn't like travelling beyond their current and maybe even painful circumstances to a world that shadows their own where mythical beasts roam and even talk? Where children become the heros in a world filled with grown-ups. A classic children's tale - if you had read them to your daughter she'd have fallen in love with them at age 10-12. Especially 'A Horse and His Boy' what young girl doesn't like talking horses?

I enjoyed these books as a child - didn't care much about 'The Magician's Nephew' - even before I knew what C.S. Lewis was hinting at and fell in love with them.

Even, if you take in the related them of the New Testament, one could argue that the story found there has elements of existing Greek mythology with a few unique and very special points, which I would be glad to discuss both sides of that argument any day.

I pretty much agree with Sabs, going over a movie inch by inch is just to much, either you go and enjoy it or go and don't enjoy it, or just don't go at all if it doesn't interest you. I plan on seeing Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe and I can't remember what else is coming out, but I'll figure that out later...

Likely contradicted myself somewhere, but meh

I think it takes way too much energy to be that cynical, but thats just my 2 cents.

Agreed Sabs. With movies today I'm paying money to enjoy a couple hours of my time. I'm not getting as incredibly into movies like we all did to one extent or another with SW today. Maybe it's age and maturity (ha) but I think it's more likely that movies today, particularly "blockbusters" are either one of two things. A crap dramaticization of a really good book (read: all Bourne movies, Sum of all Fears, Da Vinci code [the book even SAID THE FKING ROLE WAS WRITTEN FOR HARRISON FORD]) or an excuse to say LOOK AT ALL THE CGI 'SPLOSIONS AND FIGHTS AND LOOK BOOBIES WOOWOO. Do they even film movies on location anywhere anymore, or just on green/blue screens? Don't look for too much of a plot cuz it's either lacking or butchered or scattered around what would have been considered softcore porn not 15 years ago.

That said, Ryna and I both enjoyed Trek. Maybe it's because we're in that kinda in between generation that was just a little too young for Next Gen, way too young for the original, maybe enjoyed Voyager or DS9, and lets just disregard Enterprise. Then we go back and see the originals and can't take them seriously because of the expectation of the aforementioned 'splosions and other stuff that we take for granted today that simply didn't exist in the 60s. I think that the alternate timeline (yes, it is a reboot I know) works for us because it'll mirror a lot of the things in the original series, but with a different back story. If they make more movies or a series out of this, I'll probably watch them.

But seriously, it's all for the boobies and 'splosions.

Well for a while there we had a bit of good story to go with the boobies and splosions. I don't care enough to have strong feelings other than a bit of disappointment. This is our culture after all and we should have better.

BTW I know for a fact that Star Trek was shot on location. Biggest budgeted film ever!

T4 or whatever was worth seeing btw. The CGI Arnie was prefect.

the tom hanks movie angels & demons or what ever it's called I'll go watch . An the GI joe movie I'm gonna go see . Not because I am a fan of GI Joe , but because one of my favorite actors is portraying Destro . Which for me will be worth paying the price of admission .

Transformers 2 , I'm gonna wait for Video on demand on satelite an get it then . Same with the rest of the movies I haven't seen yet .

And Q, technically the movie industry is prostituting itself to us, as they are the ones being paid... Although it'd be pretty cool to be paid to go see movies in the Theatre. =oP

No they create a demand which is junk and makes us believe they are cool in a way that people around you is seduced by it.. and then the peer pressure from your friends... the media... showing off all them special effects.. they are trying to make us addicts of junk... just watch batman with Michael Keaton in it.. the first two movies rocked then everything else after sucked.. but got revived in a good way with the new ones.

Maybe making us prostitutes is the wrong word, but what about public rape then? Making us pay for crap movies that is nothing but special effects and eye candy with no actual content in them.

Look at eg. Cillian... whenever there is a new MMO released he is oh my God it looks good I want to play it kind of way, the media am adding subliminal messages into our mind as it is already.

I blame people. If they'd stop going to crappy movies which they know they aren't going to like then two things would happen: a) they wouldn't have a reason to complain because they didn't see the movie and b) the movie would make less money and eventually it wouldn't be profitable to to make shit movies Tongue

It is flock mentality Nis.. usually it hits the lesser interlectual people or people around the average and slightly above, it is those people they profit on.

But most of all people go watching shit because there friends does it and that they would be un-cool if they do not waste 10 bucks or whatever.

Would say that real B-Movies are better than any of this new stuff to be honest eg. for getting cult rating.. such as worst ever horror movie or monster movie.

It is like if you put a man and a woman in an isolate room for a year they would eventually mate as of a following thing of nature.

Saw the matrix in the Theater.. the first one was ok... but never went to see it, got an invitation for the matrix 3 later on when it came out and went there... I got to say.. what kind of rubbish is this??? some of the paradox was cool and inspired, but the rest was bullshit.. and not worth another glance after.

You can call it flock mentality. I call it just being bored and wanting something easy to do outside the house.

So basically your calling everyone who doesn't agree with you on this a retard. Going to see what looks like a good movie, even though you think it's a horrible one, makes everyone else wrong and you right. I'm sorry Q, but your really coming off as an egomaniac (not sure if that's the proper term right now, but it'll work for the moment), first with your "All Consoles Suck Big Balls" crap and now this.....

I do agree with this, most of the time I sit at home and do the square root of sweet fuck all.....

This also marks my one thousandth post

Just saying that I am not following that flock mentality, just because it is a trend or cool does not mean it is good... I don't fall into peer pressure that easy.

You can say it was egocentric... but well I am saying that I am not... I just say what I see out there and it is sad but true, I rather would like to be the one earning the credits on it than spending.

I am also saying that they are litterally screwing up the fanbase, why not make it deep with insight and stuff instead and give us a proper product.. Batman Begins for an instance and the sequal.. they where deep, they made a background and had it all more clever planned out.

Remember I to was a kid once, and read marvel comics, Donald Duck and whatever else, watching teh old Disney Cartoons (the ones that had spirit in them and was good), but with alot of the new stuff I feel betrayed because they litterally removed what I liked about it all back then.

Very limited on which Super Hero movies I am going to watch, and for sure doing a background scan on the history as well in THIS or THAT movie... if I find it is just another BS movie then I wont go.

The new Starwars Cartoons I watched two episodes.. then I trashed it finding it boring and without spirit.

Thing is Q, this is only your opinion. Which is great, but it does not make it true... only your opinion. =o) Something that we are all welcome to have. It's great to voice it in a discussion, but don't constantly force it down everyones throat.
