Hey Ghent. Good to see you are still kicking, hard.

Pallos came around a few weeks ago and posted a bunch of links with a cache of old LSF sites. I followed those old links and came around Starfighters.com and saw you still had the old site going. Came accross your demo reel. Looks real good. Glad to see you got the training and the job you always wanted. I liked the pictures of the Yorktown. My father served on that very ship back in the late 50s as a signalman. How's Rosie getting along?

Nice to see ya guys. Smile

The old LSF sites are still there, I hadnt touched them at all. The forums dont work anymore I think.. some database link issue, although the date is all still there...

http://starfighters.com/lsf/

and if you want to feel really old...

http://www.starfighters.com/lsf/lsf_old/LSF2.htm

Those links all work too, if you manually change it to the /lsf_old/ instead of whats there.

And keeping with tradition, The Resistance website still stands as well.

Yeah, ive finished school and am now out making movies. Unfortunately Im not on anything epic or cool yet, (Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 right now.. blah) but im working my way towards it. I switched the site over to act as my professional portfolio.

Thats bad ass that your father was on the Yorktown. That ship was an AWESOME place to visit and to use as a background for several of my projects. I went up there often. Did you check out the USO Show I took pictures of? That show was inside the carrier on the main deck. Was bad ass.

Rosie is doing well. (Lady Katha to those who dont remember) She'll probably pop on here too. We've been doing the WoW thing ever since SWG (Im with Doc on this.. SWG sucked donkey shit since day 1). WoW has been entertaining.. but we are looking forward to Old Republic and something new. I doubt our wow guild will take a serious interest in it, nor do I give a shit about playing with them anyways. We'd be down to tagging along with you guys if you want another pair of hands.

But I play casually nowadays and am just a grunt. Im not leading anything anymore.

Mostly focused on work.. and trying to get into Lucasfilm. Im close.... but not there yet.

Ive been Krom on WoW for all these years... might stick with that one for Old Republic.. not sure yet.

Ender's Game....Ghent, if you could come up with a way to make that a movie - I'm sure you'd make sci-fi fans drool and put a couple mill in the pocket.

Tell me about it.

But it would take a LOT to make it work. However, there is this... we are one step closer.

I saw those USO pictures, didn't realize it was on the Yorktown. I haven't gotten a chance to visit the old boat yet. I believe my brother did many years ago. I may make it a point one of these days.

No one really leads much of anything anymore. We all just go along with what ever the flow is at the time. I rarely play games these days unless except when sabers are playing.

I hear ILM works people like dogs and they eventually get burned out and leave. Though I did hear that many moons ago when I was thinking about going a similar route. Just no school around here and no money to go else where. Those animator pay checks aren't big enough to cover any loans as you well know. So I kept my day job. I'm Senior Scientist for a small biotech company now. No idea how well this will turn out in the end. The company is going to be focused on running its operations in China in the near future.

I'm looking forward to seeing Cowboy Bebop and Robotech on the big screen personally. It was awesome to see a release of new Robotech material with Shadow Chronicles, but I haven't heard anything else coming later on. I was really never much of an Enders Game fan, I've read a few books but never could get into the whole storyline. I got hooked on the whole Wheel of Time books for a while, but its been over a year since I last ready any of them. Battletech took a nose dive with Dark Age, and the whole no more Combat Mecha existing thing really annoyed me. It's never been the same since FASA closed down.

I haven't really played anything online in ages. Someone offered me the software to get into Ultima Online, but I never got around to getting into that. WoW is popular, and I have a few cousins who love it, but I never really got into it, and when I heard about the SWG sucking so bad it just totally turned me off from playing. I got Empire at War, and I liked the whole Forces of Corruption expansion.

Couple of pairs of hands from LSF are pretty much always welcome.

Well, the whole industry seems to burn people out. A lot of outsourcing, a shitload of kids from schools, and high costs of running vfx shops. Its a gigantic freelance industry, which does make it suck a bit. There are few places that will give you long contracts, if at all. Its all movie by movie project contracts. You have to be flexible to make it work.

Im getting closer to ILM. I had 3 interviews with their ILM singapore branch (where they do Clone Wars) but they havent decided on anything yet, but I dont think it will work out. At least I made it that far, and they havent told me no right off the bat.

So... im almost there, but not quite. There is no doubt that I will be there one of these days. I can do this work easy.

Soon...

Shadow -

Empire at war was pretty good. There is a gigantic mod thats been in progress forever.. and IF it ever comes out it could make the game really fun. Some of the other mods make the game much better too. I never play the ground combat.. I always play the space maps.

Yeah, that is my understanding. Lots of short term work with nothing in between and not a whole lot of pay to get you between the in betweens. The work itself seems to be a lot of fun but without a huge pile of cash under one's belt, it isn't a luxury many can afford. At least I couldn't so I had to be realistic about things. China is training droves of people to do such work. I dare say only a few touch up/story board people will be left in this country soon. I honestly don't know what one does in this country anymore other than work at walmart or day trade. Good luck with ILM though. They are still around to some extent at least.

I never got into Empire at war but that bug did make its round a few years back.

I must remark that compared to other threads and conversations, this one is a "man's" thread for Saberwing. This thread has depth! :bravo:

Shadow, I've only read Ender's Game, but as a book - I'd say it was remarkable, even Mr. Card said it was the best one - which tells alot and almost makes me not want to read the next ones.

Day Trade....now that's a term I haven't heard in a long time...WalMart on the other hand is everywhere....I can only comment on out sourcing in my own career area, and it isn't a good review. Oh well 2012 is coming along soon enough....

Ghent: I agree that playing Forces of Corruption is worthy only for the space battles. The ground missions were always MEH! Some of the special missions were interesting.

I'm not saying Enders Game is bad, it's just too slow for me based on reading some of the additional books. Would it make a good movie, of course!
