I dunno if anyone else here has read any of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, but in case you have..

While I like the books for the most part, I have a feeling this will be butchered. They weren't the greatest to start with and a TV series will just be.. bad.
As much as it will shock everyone in the room... I completely agree with Nis.
I read a little bit about the plot, and it's a shadow of what the book was (It's based on the first one, of course) but I still have some hope that maybe it'll shape itself into what it's supposed to be. I'm skeptical on whether or not I'll like it.
If they do to that what was done to Eragon... heads will roll, blood will fly, and the night air will be filled with the screams of the dying and the lamentations of the women.
Eragon the movie wasn't so bad. I never read the book and just about any book does not make for a good movie, but that movie was your typical fantasy fair. Nothing great, nothing bad. The only thing not writen for a movie format that translates well to a movie format is comics and those are really story boards for movies, so go figure.

Is this thing on ABC/CBS ect....?
If you go to the website, in the upper right-hand corner it'll have a place to put in your ZIP code to find out what time and what channel it will be on.

If you'd read the book, you wouldn't say that. they slaughtered the storyline, the characters, the base plot even, so badly that doing a movie for the second book is impossible. Plot-critical characters were killed, entire story-essential characters were left out.... it was a nightmare.
Never judge a movie by a book. They just aren't the same thing. Though I am of the opinion that movies shouldn't be based on two things, true events and books. Neither makes for a good movie because the movie format just doesn't lend itself well to such things. True events just don't translate well to the screen and in order to get them to do so, facts are lost/change. A documentery is always better. Books are simply too long and just too different of a medium to translate to a movie at all. At best you can do a mini-series to do justice to the full story.

Movies simply need to start out as movies. So yeah, to make Eragon or any book into a movie, the writer starts out knowing full well the story will be bastardized. In the end the movie script is simply something that was inspired by the book. Maybe I am an old fuck, but I stopped the whole, this movie better be as good as the book long time ago. Let the movie be a movie and judge it independant from the book. Or just don't read any books so you can enjoy any movie.
It CAN be done right, just so few studios/directors care enough to do so, and few authors have enough clout to enforce it. Interview with teh Vampire, for instance. Yeah, a lot was left out but the story itself was virtually unchanged. Then they did the equivalent of taking QotD and sodomizing it with a live, rabid badger tied to a freight train.
Yeah, umm, Rice's novels have way too much the gay in them to be fit for public consumption.
Hehe, yeah... but that really didn't start to be a problem until Vampire Armand. I think I made it through 3 or 4 chapters of that before I stopped...
The Interview movie got me interested so I read a few. Needless to say, I don't read her stuff no more.

eragon... is that the god awful p.o.s. dragon movie that ended with an avril lavigne (sp) song?
that was massacred from a good, albeit not amazing, book... yes.
